What are the differences between a coated and a stain-resistant tablecloth?

What is a coated tablecloth?

A coated tablecloth is made of pure cotton treated against stains and then covered with a double layer of acrylic coating that makes it waterproof.

This coating enables you to remove stains simply by wiping with a damp sponge, and it preserves the bright colours of your tablecloth. The coated tablecloth is as easy to maintain as an oilcloth and as elegant as a traditional fabric tablecloth.

Coated cotton has many advantages and is used in many other everyday items: coated-cotton aprons, place mats and chair covers, for example.

What size coated tablecloth should I choose? Refer to our size guide to choose the perfect tablecloth for your table.

How do I remove stains from a coated tablecloth? A simple wipe with a clean, damp sponge should do the trick. We don't recommend using the green side of your sponge as it is too abrasive and could damage the coating.

How do I wash a coated tablecloth? Machine wash at 30° with very little detergent. Choose a delicate washing cycle, without spinning, and don't add fabric conditioner.

Can I iron a coated tablecloth? Iron on the reverse side of the tablecloth only. By ironing your coated tablecloth on the reverse side, you reactivate the waterproofing treatment and extend the life of your tablecloth.

What is a stain-resistant tablecloth?

stain-resistant tablecloth is made of pure cotton protected by a water-repellent treatment that is undetectable to the touch. The fabric remains soft and supple like a traditional fabric tablecloth.

Thanks to this stain-proofing treatment, the fibres of your tablecloth repel any kind of liquid and are more resistant to rubbing.

To find out if your tablecloth has had a stain-proofing treatment, simply spill a little water on it. If it's a stain-resistant tablecloth, you'll see that the water rolls off the surface without penetrating the fabric. You can then easily soak up the water with a sponge.

What is a Green Sweet tablecloth?

Green Sweet is an innovative stain-proofing treatment developed by Garnier-Thiebaut.

It provides your tablecloth with effective, long-lasting protection against stains while preserving the soft, delicate feel of traditional cloth tablecloths.

It also extends the life of the linen by providing the textile fibres with a protective barrier against wear and tear.

Garnier-Thiebaut was inspired by nature to develop a high-performance, environmentally friendly stain-proofing treatment. The Green Sweet treatment reproduces the principle of lotus leaves, which always remain clean because dirt is unable to adhere to their surface.

During the fabric-finishing process, nanoparticles create a chaotic structure around the textile surface, like a carpet of marbles.Substances dropped on the fabric have a very small contact surface, slide off and can be removed simply with a wipe of a sponge.

With this innovative treatment, you won't need to wash your tablecloth as frequently. When necessary, a low temperature wash of 20–40°C will be sufficient.

What are the differences between a coated and a stain-resistant tablecloth?

The coated tablecloth and the Green Sweet tablecloth are both stain-resistant.

The coating makes the cloth totally waterproof: liquids will not soak into the fibres of the fabric.

The Green Sweet treatment is a Garnier-Thiebaut innovation used for sophisticated tablecloths with a fine feel and placed patterns. These tablecloths are water-repellent: the liquid will slide off the fabric but will need to be quickly and gently absorbed, because the surface is not waterproof.
