Garnier-Thiebaut presents « L’Hôtel du Palais »

The Basque coast Jewel

Historically known as Villa Eugenie, the Hotel du Palais was the imperial residence of Napoleon III and Eugenie Montijo in 1855. In homage to the Empress, this palace was built in an “E” shape, facing the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean.

Transformed into a hotel-casino venue when the Emperor died, the hotel took the name of “Palais Biarritz”. It remains a prestigious place where Queen Victoria and Empress Elisabeth of Austria loved to stay.

Burned down in 1903, the establishment was rebuilt to become a luxury hotel frequented by international celebrities such as: Coco Chanel, Ernest Hemingway, Frank Sinatra.

In 2019, Hyatt took over the management and began a huge renovation work.

For over 3 years, cabinetmakers, painters, upholsterers, dressmakers, gardeners and many other craftsmen have united their know-how to restore to the hotel all its yesterday’s splendour.

Hôtel du Palais distinguished as Palace since 2011, is a legendary establishment that has become a must-see if you are staying on the Basque coast. You will discover one of its 86 rooms or 56 suites stamped with a Napoleon III stamp, its gourmet restaurant “La Rotonde” or its Imperial Spa which extends over more than 2.500m2 dedicated to well-being.

Today, the « Hôtel du Palais » is finally reopening its doors to provide a unique experience to its customers. An experience which Garnier-Thiebaut is an integral part of.

The birth of a private collection

Creating unprecedented table linen collection requires in-depth reflection on the hotel’s identity, its reputation, its decoration and even more on the history it is aiming to create. Luxury is in every detail and it is for this very reason that Garnier-Thiebaut has been selected to procure all hotel’s table linen. Partnering Hotels and Restaurants enjoy an unlimited creative freedom with almost no boundary: dimensions, materials, patterns, feel, outfit, type of thread, embroidery, colours…

La Rotonde

For Hotel du Palais, the choice fell on a combination of sober and refined colours matching perfectly La Rotonde gourmet Restaurant’s tableware.

Tablecloths are woven in soft white cotton with a Verdigris stitched pipping hem and the imperial initials “NE” embroidered with gold thread. 

This embroidery, in reference to the first owners of Hotel du Palais, has been discreetly added to the corner of each tablecloth like a gold hallmark on a piece of jewellery.

Special attention has been paid to the napkins as the hotel wanted to reproduce the shades of colour present on the dishes. Thanks to the jacquard weaving method and the know-how of the creative team, Garnier-Thiebaut has produced an original damask that will not be found in any other establishment.

The Lounge

The palace experience extends to the lounge, a more casual restaurant where Garnier-Thiebaut has created a soft white napkin adorned with a golden stitched pipping hem.

This second restaurant is also the ideal place to take a gourmet break and discover the sweet pleasures prepared by the Hotel pastry chef. In summer, table linen settle in at the pool restaurant, Le Sunset established in the fresh air, facing the ocean.

The Napoleon III Bar

If you are a Gin or Whiskey lover, your glass will be served on an elegant soft white colour cocktail napkin bordered by a golden stitched pipping hem. A nod to the gourmet restaurant’s linen.

The Room Service and Banquet

In the privacy of your room or at a reception, you will recognize Garnier-Thiebaut linen. Room service and banquet rooms are no exception and benefit from tailor-made linen.

This private collection is available in 13 different tablecloth sizes enabling the hotel to adapt it to its exceptional furniture, maintained by their own craftsmen.

The creative work, carried out in conjunction with the hotel, is always based on aesthetic and technical harmony search. The private collection is invariably adapted to the establishment’s industrial maintenance process.

For each collection created, Garnier-Thiebaut sends fabrics samples for quality control. Professionals test and approve materials, colours and wash-proof laundry quality.

Throughout its history, the company has been able to preserve its French know-how, from threading to tailoring. The company has its own designers, selects its yarns, weaves according to ancestral methods, ennobles, dyes, makes and embroiders its household linen.
